The Clermont County District Advisory Council (DAC) appoints members to the Clermont County Board of Health. The DAC consists of the Board of County Commissioners’ president, the chairperson from each township’s board of trustees, and the mayor of each village in Clermont County.
The DAC appoints a member to the Board of Health and can make recommendations to the board regarding public health matters. The District Advisory Council meets annually in March with the health commissioner, according to section 3709.03 of the Ohio Revised Code. During the meeting, the health commissioner provides an Annual Report of Public Health’s activities from the prior year and a Board of Health member is chosen.
To be considered for a Board of Health position, a member of the DAC must nominate a candidate. Interested candidates should send a letter of interest and their qualifications to Clermont County DAC, c/o Clermont County Public Health, 2275 Bauer Road, Suite 300, Batavia, OH 45103. Candidates are encouraged to attend the annual DAC meeting held in March to discuss their interests and qualifications. Information on all interested candidates will be presented to the DAC members at the meeting. After introducing all candidates, the DAC members will vote for a Board of Health member.
Candidates must be residents of the county and be able to regularly attend the Board of Health meetings. All Board of Health members must obtain two hours of continuing education annually. Board of Health members may not be township trustees, board of education members, village mayors, or administrators.
Board members serve a five-year term from April 1 through March 31. They are paid $80 for each board meeting they attend, which typically lasts one to two hours.
